Resilia Partners with Galaxy Gives to Support 25 Galaxy Leaders and their Organizations Focused on Criminal Justice Reform

Partnership will focus on leaders and organizations focused on criminal justice reform.

New Orleans, La. - Resilia, a social enterprise with offices in New Orleans and New York City, and Galaxy Gives have formed a partnership to provide holistic capacity-building support to organizations led by leaders who have been directly impacted by the criminal justice system.

Galaxy Gives supports leaders and organizations building power, narratives, and solutions to dismantle systems of oppression and heal communities, with a focus on criminal justice reform. The Galaxy Leader Fellowship was founded in 2019 to support directly impacted, visionary leaders – advocates, community organizers, lawyers, writers, and artists – dedicated to reforming and transforming the U.S. criminal justice system. Each year, the Galaxy Leader Fellowship supports a cohort of extraordinary individuals across the country and enables them to delve into their work, deepen their skills and connections, and maximize their impact in fellowship with others.

Through Resilia’s Funder Program, Galaxy Gives will receive in-depth support across capacity-building needs for 25 leaders and their organizations who are part of the Galaxy Leader Fellowship. Resilia will work to empower directly impacted leaders who have dedicated their lives to ending our nation’s punitive criminal justice system.

"At this critical moment in our history, we see an unprecedented opportunity to continue to support the movement to end mass incarceration in new and novel ways. We are excited to partner with Resilia whose equity focus on supporting proximate leaders aligns with Galaxy Gives. Through our partnership, we will provide the necessary resources, coaching, and peer-to-peer opportunities to our Fellows and their organizations,” said Alex Duran, Program Director, Galaxy Gives

“Galaxy Gives’ commitment to social justice deeply aligns with Resilia’s mission,” says Resilia CEO and founder Sevetri Wilson. “We are thrilled about the opportunity to partner with Galaxy Gives to help strengthen the organizations and leaders on the ground who are working tirelessly towards a more equitable justice system.”

Through the partnership, Galaxy Gives has also joined Resilia’s flagship ELEVATE initiative, a first-of-its-kind national Funders collaborative comprising 28 Funders and aimed at elevating the capacity and voices of BIPOC-led and BIPOC-serving grassroots organizations throughout the country.

About Galaxy Gives
Galaxy Gives was founded in 2017 out of Mike and Sukey Novogratz’s indignation about the injustice of New York City’s cash bail system, where mostly poor Black and Brown communities were left to languish in jail for misdemeanors. Galaxy Gives believes that we arrive at justice and accountability by healing, both for the survivor and for the person who committed harm, rather than punishing both. Galaxy Gives was born out of the desire to tackle the unfair and brutal criminal legal system by ending mass incarceration.
