Resilia is excited to continue our Nonprofit Spotlight Series, highlighting some of the incredible organizations doing great work in our communities across the country. These are the people who energize and compel us to do what we do every day. We’ll be highlighting their work all month long. Take a moment to celebrate our nonprofit founders who are changing the world. Our series continues with STAR Group, South Texas Animal Rescue Group, founder Debbie Hammond.

Nonprofit Founder

Founder Debbie Hammond, a lifelong animal lover has been rescuing animals since she was 6 years old. When she returned to her home in Corpus Christi, she realized the numbers of abandoned animals on the streets had alarmingly grown. She decided she had to do something to save them.

STAR Group Mission

South Texas Animal Rescue Group (STAR Group), helps pets in need through sheltering, adoption, education, spay/neuter, and community outreach. We are saving lives and stopping animal cruelty. Animals are endless sources of love and trust and deserve to be part of a healthy family. 

The Goal

STAR Group is building a no kill shelter with an in-house vet to offer no cost and low cost spay and neutering to address overpopulation of animals in Texas. We are committed to saving lives and re-homing animals with families that will love them. 

The Big Dream

We want to re-educate people on animal care and create fun social events for people to attend with their pets. We envision family functions motivating people to do more with animals safely.  We would love to be able to create an indoor home for every animal and give them someone to love that loves them back. 

What You Can Do To Help

Fostering an animal while we get them fixed, vaccinated, and treated for heart-worms if they are positive is the biggest help; and if that’s not possible, donations are greatly appreciated. Learn how you can help here.
