BUILD BACK BETTER WITH THE RESILIA FUNDER PLATFORM
The Funder Platform is a nonprofit-first online platform. Built by nonprofit practitioners amidst the pandemic, Resilia helps grantmakers assist grantees as they Build Back Better with data-driven & DEI-aware capacity building.
Why Build Back Better?
President Joe Biden's American Rescue Plan is a national initiative with bipartisan support, to help our nation build back better (buildbackbetter.gov). The initiative gives communities the tools they need to not only get back to life before the pandemic but surpass it by rebuilding the economy, helping underserved communities, and advancing racial equity.
This plan strongly aligns with what Resilia envisions for the nonprofit sector. Organizations working together and relying on collective action to help rebuild the communities that were hit hardest by this pandemic and the waves of cultural and societal change.
Challenges Nonprofit Organizations And Funders Have Historically Faced
Nonprofit organizations are highly resource-constrained
Nonprofits struggle to build and retain organizational capacity. The average staff tenure is 18 months, leading to a constant capacity drain combined with the fact that 95% of organizations have less than $10,000 annual budget to spend on capacity building. They often engage with consultants to bridge the gap but they’re only temporary.
In spite of such resource constraints, nonprofits grind it out, rolling out innovative programs but continue to struggle to capture and communicate impact. Typical outcomes tracking methods are manual and tedious. 71% of nonprofits struggle to measure program impact. This struggle leads to a lack of data that causes underwhelming communication of impact with funders.
Funders recognize the issue but are facing many challenges towards solutions
Grantee capacity building is expensive and inequitable. The usual solution, capacity building consultants, are expensive and temporary. Less than 20% of nonprofits receive any form of capacity building funding.
Impact tracking is manual, with long lead times. Annual grant reports are burdensome for nonprofits and take too much time to show up. Legacy reporting systems create unequal power dynamics and a “big brother” perception among grantees.
The pandemic only widened the nonprofit capacity gap, especially for under-resourced nonprofits.
