Peak Grantmaking Webinar Replay - Collaborative Learning for Collective Action: Advancing Trust-Based Capacity Building
21 funders across the U.S. have joined ELEVATE, a learning and action network dedicated to strengthening historically marginalized communities through trust-based capacity building and equity-centric data sharing. Led by Resilia, a Black woman-led social impact organization, ELEVATE leverages the power of the collective to amplify the capacity and voices of BIPOC-led/serving grassroots organizations.
This online conversation explored how funders are deploying trust-based capacity building strategies with Resilia’s customized support that responds to the mission-facing and back-office needs of nonprofits by meeting them where they are. After the roundtable discussion, Resilia’s Anthony Simmons invited attendees to reimagine further a new dynamic of capacity building that drives equitable outcomes in which BIPOC-led/serving changemakers build agency in their communities.
Panelists :
Anthony Simmons - Senior Director of Institutional Partnerships, Equity at Resilia

About the initiative
ELEVATE 2022 is a national learning and action network of 21 Funders aimed at strengthening historically marginalized communities through “actionable programs” and equity-centric data sharing. It is one of the first nationwide initiatives aimed at leveraging the power of the collective to help elevate the capacity and voices of BIPOC-led/serving grassroots organizations.
How do funders benefit from being a part of ELEVATE?
Trust-based capacity building support for nonprofits
Funders will be able to deploy Trust-based capacity building solutions for local nonprofits through a combination of technology, 1:1 nonprofit coaching, and peer-to-peer learning. Acknowledging the specific needs of BIPOC-led/serving grassroots organizations, the infrastructure enables funders to be responsive in order to meet changemakers where they are.
Collective data sharing to drive Equity-centric goals
Actionable insights on capacity & advocacy needs of BIPOC-led/serving grassroots organizations, generated across Resilia Funder programs, will be shared with ELEVATE Funders to help inform their broader initiatives pertaining to social justice and support for historically marginalized communities. Insights could in turn inform long term strategic plans for Funders.
Professional development & mentorship
Funder staff new to implementing programs for historically marginalized communities get to learn from others who’ve been there, done that! They also get to identify mentors from other funders to help them on the journey.
Peer-to-peer learning
Networking opportunities for funders to democratize best practices and learnings as it pertains to efforts focused on strengthening historically marginalized communities.
Eligibility Criteria
✅ Stated focus on marginalized communities
Participating funders need to have specific focus on empowering BIPOC-led/serving nonprofits, grassroots organizations and/or change makers serving historically marginalized communities. For example, this focus may be realized through targeted program support, the funder’s overall mission, or a new RFP to support such communities.
✅ Same program cycle with Resilia
Participating funders need to be on the same launch cycle with Resilia with programs going live. This is to align data collection with phases of program maturity and enable logistical efficiency.
