Key Findings and Takeaways from the Webinar
1.3% of all U.S. philanthropic dollars granted between 1999–2009 were awarded to Latinx communities, while those same communities now represent 18% of the U.S. population. (Hispanics in Philanthropy)
In 2020, Latinx communities received ~$500 million from foundations, while total U.S. foundation giving that same year was $88.55 billion. (LatinxFunders/GivingUSA)
Latinx community members need safe spaces where they can receive key resources, making work by nonprofits essential
Foundations and other funders should strive to understand the specific needs and equity concerns of diverse Hispanic communities
Funders should invest in strengthening nonprofit leadership and operations to create greater social change by their organizations
In addition, Resilia reviewed the most-used resources by our Latinx-led/serving nonprofit partners and discovered the following:
The sustainability of fundraising is top of mind. Nonprofits request coaching support to diversify their funding streams, including strategies to attract and re-engage donors and to identify new grant opportunities specific to their area and communities.
There have been many requests for Spanish language resources, particularly around launching and evaluating programs. So far, Resilia has offered demonstrations and onboarding sessions in Spanish, which is an area for continued growth.
Legal and compliance questions often arise, ranging from how to get 501c3 status to how volunteer-run organizations might offer stipends for undocumented migrants.
Latinx-led/serving organizations seek guidance on volunteer management and recruitment. They also ask how to track volunteer data accurately and identify software solutions.
Resilia addresses these learning and coaching needs through mission-facing and back-office capacity-building programs, including online training, customizable resources, storytelling, and 1:1 nonprofit coaching. Funders can provide access to these resources for the nonprofits they support.
